Community

We value and appreciate the place and the community that we live in. We feel we are lucky to be part of such a great place to live – Wanaka, Otago and NZ as a whole. To give something back to the community we are involved with a number of organisations providing financial assistance as well as giving time and advice where needed.

Festival of Colour – Patron
We have been a patron for the last three festivals and what an amazing event to be a part of. For a tiny Festival near the ends of the earth they always attract incredibly high quality acts which never fail to impress both locals and visitors alike. With dance, visual arts, music, theatre and debates there is something for everyone. It is often the shows that you are perhaps unsure about that challenge and leave the most lasting impression. For the promotion of arts and creating an opportunity for our local community to experience and be challenged by world class creative minds it has no equal. We are already looking forward to the next festival in 2015! Check out www.festivalofcolour.co.nz.

Challenge Wanaka – Patron
Each year this great crew of people put on an amazing event in Wanaka that is been billed as the world’s most scenic triathlon (it’s one reason we all live here after all!). Not only is it scenic but it a massive challenge at all levels. Ben has run in the event twice as the marathon runner in a team and can attest to not only what an amazing course it is along the lake front and the mighty Clutha River, but how hard it is!. Not only does it give our community a fantastic opportunity to compete in all levels from kids, to half distance to incredible full distance in a world class event but being supported by local volunteers it creates an opportunity for great community building. We are proud to have supported the charitable trust run Challenge Wanaka in the last event both as a Patron and a volunteer. There is still time to enter for next year see www.challengewanaka.com.

WPS logoWanaka Primary School – School Trustee
Ben has recently been co-opted onto the Board of the Wanaka Primary School to help out in particular with monitoring the schools finances. He is very much looking forward to the opportunity support and be part of such a high quality institution. With two children already there and another two due in a couple of years he certainly has a vested interest in helping the school be the best it can. More information on the school can be found at www.wanaka.school.nz.

Montessori Wanaka – Trustee
Ben has been involved as a trustee of the Charitable Trust that runs Wanaka’s local Montessori Early Childhood Centre for the last 4 years, the last two as Chairman, before recently stepping down from that role but remaining a trustee. Valuing the quality education and care it has given all his children he considers it a privilege to be involved with this facility that is high regarded by the community it serves.
